Max: Streaming-Dienst kündigt massive 4K-Offensive an

Der Streaming-Anbieter Max (ehemals HBO Max) will sein 4K-Angebot massiv ausbauen. Ab dem 23. Mai 2023 stockt man deswegen sein Portfolio erheblich auf.

Zu beachten: In Deutschland ist Max, das Streaming-Angebot ist aus dem Zusammenschluss von HBO Max und Discovery+ entstanden, nicht vertreten. Insofern profitiert man hierzulande leider nicht von dem aufgestockten 4K-Angebot. Das ist sehr schade, denn es sind auf den ersten Blick durchaus auch Titel in ultrahoher Auflösung mit von der Partie, die sich anderswo nur in 1080p finden.

Warner Bros. Discovery brüstet sich dann auch damit, dass man für Max mehr als 1.000 Filme und Serienfolgen in 4K UHD bereithalte – mehr als achtmal so viele als noch bei HBO Max. Unter den 4K-Inhalten sind unter anderem auch die Filme der Reihen „Harry Potter“, „The Dark Knight“-Trilogie und „Der Herr der Ringe“. Aber auch Serien wie z. B. „Game of Thrones“ oder „The Last of Us“ hält Max in 4K vor.

In den USA kostet das Abonnement von Max 19,99 US-Dollar im Monat bzw. 199,99 US-Dollar im Jahr. Damit zählt Max definitiv zu den hochpreisigeren Streaming-Anbietern. Warum man nicht in Deutschland durchstartet? Hierzulande gibt es noch laufende Lizenzabkommen – z. B. mit dem Pay-TV-Anbieter Sky, aber auch mit RTL.

Max liefert 4K, Dolby Vision und Dolby Atmos

Dabei setzt Max im Übrigen in den USA nicht nur auf 4K-Auflösung, sondern auch auf Dolby Vision und Dolby Atmos. In den Vereinigten Staaten nimmt Max dabei sogar „Avatar: The Way of Water“ in 4K mit Dolby Vision und Dolby Atmos ab dem 7. Juni 2023 ins Programm auf. Hierzulande landet der Blockbuster am selben Datum bei Disney+. Zu den weiteren 4K-Inhalten zählen beispielsweise „Black Adam“, „The Suicide Squad“ oder auch Klassiker wie „Goodfellas“.

Ebenfalls erwähnt Warner Bros., dass alle Kinofilme des Studios nach ihren entsprechenden Auswertungsfenstern in den Lichtspielhäusern ebenfalls bei Max in 4K UHD aufschlagen werden. Von der Praxis, die Filme parallel auch im Streaming aufschlagen zu lassen, hat man sich allerdings mittlerweile auch wieder verabschiedet. Dies war für die Einnahmen offenbar doch nicht förderlich – zumal man sich deswegen gar mit dem Regisseur Christopher Nolan erzürnte.
